Conscious Breath - The Sacred Breath of Life

It is our inherently undisciplined nature and the modern disease called instant gratification that encourages most people away from meditation. But meditation is a powerful tradition that has existed for thousands of years, which speaks volumes for the credence of this ancient ritual.

Many people claim that meditation is difficult as they find it challenging to "still" their busy and cluttered minds. Like learning a new skill or a language, with meditation practice makes perfect! All it requires is the necessary discipline to persevere in the beginning, to push through the blocks, by attempting short but frequent attempts.
The more you engage with small (5 minute) meditative sessions, the easier it will become until ultimately, it becomes a second nature.

Think of the term "conscious breathing", a state where the mind is fully focused on each and every breath, both the inhale and exhale.
This complete inward focus or "presencing" action is the essence of meditation. As you bring complete attention to the breath, which is your life-force, so you naturally come perfectly into the "NOW", a space where fear cannot exist.

Whenever the mind starts to stray, use that action as an involuntary trigger to take all mind awareness back to the breath. What this frequently repeated process does is to teach ultimate mind control, where you begin to be able to control the thinking process at will.
This is "mind power' in its purest form; one of the most significant life skills we can ever learn.

Because we become our thoughts, with mind power we can start to become the creative architects of our own lives, regardless of circumstance.
Lucky people think 'deserving' thoughts, rather than being born with good fortune on their sides.
They manifest their luck!

Conscious breathing can be practiced through the day, without the need to be in full meditation. By revisiting this mindful breathing technique as often as possible, you are easing the journey towards meaningful meditation. Try it whilst lying in a bath, or in bed, or on long boring commutes. You might even engage in this constructive habit during break periods at work.

Most of us do not breathe effectively either; especially when we are deeply stressed when breathing becomes very shallow. With conscious breathing, breathe down into your abdomen thus extending your lung capacity. Feel the rise and fall of your tummy rather than your chest, as you engage in this diaphrammatic breathing technique.

If your mind is potentially troubled and feels impossible to "still", take a long succession of short breaths at double the normal pace until your system becomes highly oxygenated. You might even feel as though you are about to pass out! Push through for a couple of minutes of this rapid breath and then eventually let go into an intensely peaceful state, induced by an oversupply of oxygen in your bloodstream. This is Nature's perfect tranquillizer and a great remedy for the common headache too. This can never be harmful and only has significant health benefits.

Many people listen to pre-recorded meditations rather than going through the learning curve in order to master meditation themselves.
With a little more dedication to practice and enduring initial rebellious discomfort, breaking through into pure meditation will also be a gift for life!

Meditation is the profound act of going deeply within. When we listen to recorded meditations, our focus is not entirely centred in self as we are listening to something external to ourselves. This is not necessarily wrong, but the ultimate experience is the eventual "bliss"
that comes without any external stimulation, purely by connecting to self at the deepest level possible. A longer term commitment to the real thing will always be the most beneficial experience.

It is our minds that bring separation, especially when we are being judgmental in our attitudes or negative in our thinking. Meditation in its purest form collapses all vestiges of separation, bringing absolute connection to "all that is". Through regular meditation, we start to experience high levels of synchronicity and our intuition becomes so finely honed that it is like perfect human radar. These wonderful phenomena are highly effective in bringing success to practically anything.

Accumulated stress is the greatest killer in the modern world, manifesting in cancers, heart disease, strokes and many other serious medical complications. A disciplined routine of daily meditation is highly effective at reducing the impact of stress to almost negligible levels with considerable long term health benefits. When events cause you to become stressed during the day, notice what's happening and suspend everything for five minutes of conscious breathing. This simple technique will enable you to take full charge of your life again. Rather than being a victim of stress, manage your life away from harmful stress using meditation as a mind/body healing vehicle.

If you have previously held meditation in negative judgment as being religious fanaticism, let common sense prevail and begin to use this amazing practice to engineer a considerably better life for yourself.
