Q. What does Bikram mean and where does this type of Yoga originate from?
A. “Bikram” is the name of the creator of the system Bikram Choudhury. He is an Indian Yoga Master and former 3 time yoga champion. The system was developed with the help of his guru Bishnu Ghosh.
The ChiBall Method
Q. The ChiBall Method is a completely new exercise technique to many. Tell us briefly what people should expect from a ChiBall session?
A. The ChiBall Method™ uses a synergy of six exercise systems reflect the four key components of traditional Chinese medicine; chi, yin & yang, the meridian system and the five elements theory. Every class includes a sequence of Tai Chi & Qi Gong, ChiBall Dance, Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais Method and Meditation.
Q. What are the fundamental differences between Nia and a typical dance class?
A. Nia is more than a dance class. Have you ever heard a dance teacher say “Do this move your body’s way, at your own level”? In my experience I hadn’t and so my first Nia class was a revelation.
Q. Do Pilates and Yoga overlap in their theory and practice?
A. Pilates and yoga are very complimentary practises, yet they are also very different. Pilates works the entire body and focuses on six principles – concentration, control, centring, breathing, flow, and precision.
Q. Does Wu Tao Dance follow a set of routines or is it a type of free dance?
A. Wu Tao is a set of choreographed dances done to music. There are times in some of the dances where you do your own thing and can free dance, but mostly the movement are set.
